YESTERDAY: The Tribe rallied from a 5-1 deficit to take a 6-5 lead into the ninth, but a two-out, two-run single by Tim Federowicz off Clay Holmes put the Clippers back on top 7-6, and Jon Edwards worked a 1-2-3 ninth to seal Indy's fate. Both teams traded single runs in the first inning before a pair of two-run innings in the fourth and fifth staked Columbus its four-run advantage. The score remained that way until an Eric Wood two-run homer and Kevin Newman RBI double in the seventh that brought Indy within one, and the Tribe secured their first lead of the day with two runs in the eighth thanks to one hit, three walks, a passed ball and wild pitch. Trayvon Robinson reached base three times (one double, two walks) to raise his average to .386 for the month of April.

TODAY: The Indians and Clippers play the rubber game of their three-game series this afternoon with a 1:35 p.m. first pitch. Right-hander Rookie Davis (0-1, 5.21) will make his fifth start of the season for Indy, opposite Clippers righty Michael Peoples (2-0, 1.64). Peoples has faced the Indians two times in his career, once this year on April 7 at Huntington Park (4.0ip, 4h, 1r, 1er, 2bb, 4k) and last year on June 30 in Columbus (3.1ip, 8h, 5r, 5er, 2bb, 5k). He hasn't taken a decision in either appearance and owns a 7.36 ERA (6er/7.1ip) while allowing 12 hits and four walks with nine punchouts against the Tribe.

MARTIN RETURNS: OF Jason Martin is back with the Indians after being optioned yesterday by Pittsburgh, clearing space for OF Starling Marte on the major league roster. Martin, 23, has not yet played for Indy in 2019 after being recalled by the Pirates in early April. He singled in his first major league at-bat, promptly stole second base and scored a run in his first MLB inning. The California native hit .229 (8-for-35) with two RBI, three walks, three runs scored and two stolen bases in 17 total games for the Buccos.

APRIL HOMERS: The Tribe finished the month of April with 32 home runs, tied for fifth in the now homer-happy International League. The IL saw a total of 396 home runs hit this month in 12,920 plate appearances (1 HR per 32.6 PA). Syracuse, who finished last in the league with 19 home runs this April, still finished ahead of the April 2018 leader Toledo, who hit 18. Last April, 182 home runs were hit in 11,095 plate appearances (1 HR per 61.0 PA) in the IL.

WE DIG THE LONG BALL: Indy's 32 home runs in April are tied for the fourth-most dingers in a single month by a Tribe team since 2005. Indy also hit 32 home runs in Aug. 2009 and May 2005. Those totals trail only June 2005 (39), June 2008 (36) and May 2013 (34).

ELMORE, ROBINSON NOT AVERAGE: Jake Elmore (.390) and Trayvon Robinson (.386) paced the Tribe offense with impressive batting averages in the month of April, ranking second and third in the IL, respectively. Elmore's .390 clip is the fifth-highest monthly mark (min. 75 ABs) by a Tribe player since 2005, trailing only Brock Holt (.432, Aug. 2012), Matt Hague (.402, June 2011), Gregory Polanco (.400, April 2014) and Adam Frazier (.391, June 2016).

FIVE GUYS: Jake Elmore (.350, 7-for-20) and Ke'Bryan Hayes (.318, 7-for-22) are both riding five-game hitting streaks entering today's game. Elmore has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games overall, batting .426 (23-for-54) with 13 of his 15 RBI on the season during that stretch, which dates back to April 12.
