From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Indianapolis scored four runs in the top of the first and never looked back in a 17-5 rout at Columbus. Eight of the nine Indians batters recorded at least one RBI, while seven notched multi-hit games. Austin Meadows and Jacob Stallings each paced the offense with four hits, and Meadows was joined by Kevin Kramer and Jose Osuna with long balls in the win. Tanner Anderson tossed 2.1 shutout innings in relief to earn the victory. Indy raked a Victory Field Era record 23 hits -- 11 for extra bases -- just under 10 months removed from a 21-1 final and 22-hit barrage at Columbus on July 6, 2017.

REWRITE THE RECORD BOOKS: For the first time in the Victory Field Era (1996-present), Indy tallied 23 hits in a single game. Through their first five road games of 2018, Indy's offense had combined for seven runs on 28 hits. There were three previous occurrences where the Tribe had 22 hits in a game, most recently on July 6, 2017 at Columbus. The other two times with Indy having 22 knocks came on May 31, 2005 vs. Louisville and July 23, 2001 vs. Toledo. The Tribe's 12-run margin of victory is tied for fourth among the largest road wins in the Victory Field Era.

MELLOW MEADOWS: Austin Meadows' four-hit performance last night was his first four-hit game since Aug. 5, 2017 with the GCL Pirates against the GCL Blue Jays on a minor league rehab assignment. It also marked the fourth game of his career with four-plus hits -- his career high is five on May 14, 2015 with High-A Bradenton at Brevard County. Meadows has hit safely in 11 of 14 games this season and reached safely in 13 of those contests.

STALLINGS STEADY: Jacob Stallings tallied a four-hit game last night, as well, the fourth of his career and first since May 31, 2016 with Indy vs. Rochester. In that game, Stallings homered twice and drove in a career-high seven RBI. His average rests at .340, good for seventh in the IL.

LUPLOW WARMING UP: Jordan Luplow went just 3-for-29 (.103) through his first nine games this season but has turned it on as of late, batting .364 (8-for-22) in his last six games. He led all Pirates minor leaguers with 23 home runs in 2017 (16 with Double-A Altoona, 7 with Indy) but has yet to hit one this year.

EXTRA BASES AT HUNTINGTON PARK: Indy leads the International League with 49 doubles thanks to a season-high eight last night. Indianapolis totaled 11 extra-base hits (8 doubles, 3 homers) in the 17-5 triumph, its most in a single game since they totaled 11 extra-base hits (4 doubles, 1 triple, 6 homers) on June 2, 2013 at Columbus. From 2013-17, Indy's single-game extra-base hit high has occurred at Huntington Park four times (2013-14, 2016-17).

THERE'S THE POP: Through Indy's first 17 games this season, the team logged just one home run -- off the bat of Jose Osuna -- the lowest team home run total in professional baseball. The Indians then belted three home runs (Kevin Kramer, Austin Meadows, Osuna) in the series opener at Columbus last night. Since 2005, the Indians' lowest home run total in a single month is eight long balls over 22 games in April 2015.

OSUNA ON FIRE: Tribe 3B/OF Jose Osuna is riding a 15-game hitting streak to start the season, batting .364 (20-for-55) with seven doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI during the stretch. His 14-game streak with Indy is the longest in the IL this season. He was recalled as the 26th man for Pittsburgh's doubleheader Wednesday against Detroit, and he clubbed a three-run homer in his first MLB at-bat of 2018 off southpaw Matthew Boyd. Osuna finished 2-for-4 in the Pirates' 8-3 win before returning to Indy on April 26. The 15-game streak between both clubs in a personal high for Osuna.

RELIEVERS ROLLIN': Indians reliever Johnny Hellweg threw two scoreless innings last homestand, keeping his ERA at a perfect 0.00 on the season. He has allowed just four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in eight innings pitched, good for a 0.88 WHIP and .148 (4-for-27) batting average against. Dovydas Neverauskas, who joined the Tribe on April 20, has yet to allow a hit in six innings pitched, walking five with eight strikeouts.
