
Game Day Preview: Pats Continue Busy Weekend in Swift Current

The Regina Pats (12-25-1-1) continue their three in three weekend on Saturday night on the road against the Swift Current Broncos (7-28-2-1). Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at Innovation Credit Union Iplex. The Pats are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss in Saskatoon to the Blades on Friday night. The Broncos hosted the Portland Winterhawks on Friday and lost as well 5-3. Tonight is the fifth of six meetings between Regina and Swift Current, the Pats are 3-1-0-0 so far in the season series. Tonight's game can be heard with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey starting at 6:35 p.m. on 620 CKRM and will also be broadcast on Access 7.

The Lead Up: Pats earn a point in Saskatoon Friday
The Regina Pats got 36 saves from Max Paddock in a 2-1 overtime loss in Saskatoon to the Blades on Friday night. In the first period, Max Paddock stood tall making 16 saves. The Pats tested Blades goalie Nolan Maier nine times in the frame as well, but it was scoreless after one. In the second, the Pats outshot Saskatoon 14-11 but gave up the lone goal. Max Gerlach opened the scoring with seven minutes left in the frame and the Blades led 1-0 after two. In the third, Regina drew even on the powerplay when Austin Pratt tipped home his team leading 15th at the 4:38 mark. Robbie Holmes and Sebastian Streu drew assists and the game was tied at one and needed overtime. The Blades took 1:20 of powerplay time into the extra frame and Kyle Crnkovic scored with one second left in it to give the Blades the extra point in a 2-1 final. The Pats were outshot 38-33, the powerplay was one for three, the penalty kill one for two and Max Paddock made 36 saves in a second star performance.
Pats trade Joseph to Vancouver Friday
The Pats made a fourth trade in two days on Friday, acquiring a second-round pick in 2019 and a sixth-round pick in 2020 from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for 19-year-old forward Jadon Joseph. Newly acquired forward Blake Allan and defenceman Tyson Feist made their Pats debuts on Friday, they were acquired in two separate trades with Kootenay and Spokane on Thursday.
Paddock Stellar Again
Pats goaltender Max Paddock continued his strong start to the second half of the season, stopping 36 of 38 shots on Friday in Saskatoon. The 18-year-old is 2-1-1-0 since the break with a 2.50 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. Since the break, Paddock's goals against average has dropped from 3.93 to 3.71 and his save percentage is up to .887 from .880. In three starts against the Broncos this year, Paddock is 2-1-0-0 with a 1.68 GAA and a .937 SV% with one shutout.
Holmes on the scoresheet
Pats forward Robbie Holmes is operating at a point-per-game pace since returning from a lower body injury that kept him out of 17 games. In the seven games since he's come back, Holmes has scored four goals and has three assists for seven points. The 19-year-old assisted on Austin Pratt's powerplay goal in the third in Saskatoon on Friday. Holmes is up to eight goals and five assists for 13 points in 21 games this year.
