Tigers Win 5 Straight

Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers won their fifth straight game by defeating the Kootenay ICE 5-3.

Cole Clayton suited up for his 100th career WHL game while his team put on a strong team performance to win the game. Twelve different Tabbies picked up a point or more in the game.

Hayden Ostir opened the scoring midway through the first period after receiving a cross-ice pass from Ryan Jevne. Logan Christensen assisted on Ostir's 9th goal of the season.

Early into the second stanza, Elijah Brown won a faceoff to the left of ICE goaltender Jesse Makaj and the puck went to Eric Van Impe. Van Impe fired a shot in from the point and Josh Williams was there to redirect it into the net scoring his 9th goal of the season and giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Midway through the frame, the ICE responded with a couple goals to tie the game up. Defenceman Austin Schellenberg scored on a power play to get the ICE on the board before veteran forward Jaeger White scored his first of the night to tie things up.

The momentum shifted in the Tigers' favour and Ryan Chyzowski scored off a play from Dylan MacPherson to regain the lead. Chyzowski's goal was his 14th of the season.

Less than a minute later, Tyler Preziuso fired in a rebound to give the home team a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes of play. Preziuso's first goal of the night was assisted by Daniel Baker and James Hamblin.

Late in the final frame, White struck again for the ICE to make it a 4-3 goal game.

With just over 2 minutes to play, Makaj was leaving the ICE net to give his team the man advantage, but Preziuso gained possession of the puck and fired it into the empty net from the neutral zone to score his second of the night and 15th of the season.

Makaj once again left the ICE net late in the game but the Tigers played well defensively to ensure their 5-3 victory.

Affiliate goaltender Garin Bjorklund started the game for the Tigers and he stopped 29 of 32 shots faced. It was Bjorklund's second start and second win with the Tabbies while he filled in for rookie goaltender Mads Søgaard who was representing Denmark at World Juniors.

Medicine Hat is now 22-15-1-2 and will travel to Calgary tomorrow to play the Hitmen. Tomorrow's game is the CHL Saturday Showcase game and it will be aired on Sportsnet. The game is scheduled to start at 1:30 PM.
