New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Zac Gallen allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings to earn his league-leading seventh victory in the New Orleans Baby Cakes' 3-1 win over the Iowa Cubs on Wednesday night.

The 'Cakes avoided their first four-game losing skid of the season and finished 5-4 on their longest homestand of the year.

Gallen (7-1) scattered two walks and three hits across six scoreless innings before surrendering a solo homer to Robel Garcia in the seventh. He recorded one more out prior to exiting the game, having thrown a season-high 106 pitches. The right-hander lowered his home ERA to 0.96, and his 1.70 mark overall paces the league.

The Baby Cakes jumped ahead quickly when JT Riddle led off the game with a double off the wall in right-center, went to third on Isan Diaz's single and scored on a ground out by Yadiel Rivera. Wilkin Castillo doubled the advantage in the fifth with his first home run of the campaign.

Gallen helped his cause at the plate an inning later by reaching on a grounder into the hole at short and eventually scoring on Rivera's sacrifice fly.

Jose Quijada retired all three batters he faced after relieving Gallen in the seventh, and R.J. Alvarez worked around Ian Happ's leadoff single in the ninth to record his first save since April 30 and sixth of the season.

I-Cubs starter Matt Swarmer (4-5) took the loss after surrendering three runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.

New Orleans visits the Nashville Sounds for four games beginning Thursday at 6:35 p.m.
