Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs, announced Tuesday the acquisition of veteran forward Garett Bembridge from the Missouri Mavericks in exchange for future considerations. A 6'0, 180 lb. right-handed shooting winger from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Bembridge posted two goals, six points and two penalty minutes in seven games played for the Mavericks this season, prior to Tuesday's trade.
"We're thrilled to add Garett to our team and add a bit more experience to our lineup," said Fuel Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Scott Hillman on Tuesday. "[Bembridge] knows what it takes to be successful in professional hockey...He's had a tremendous career and will help lead our team moving forward."
A veteran of over 520 professional games, Bembridge, 33, notched 35 goals, 74 points and 131 penalty minutes in 244 AHL appearances in parts of seven seasons from 2000-01 to 2008-09. In the ECHL, Bembridge scored 92 career goals, 199 points and registered 212 penalty minutes for the Las Vegas Wranglers, Idaho Steelheads, Augusta Lynx, Utah Grizzlies and Missouri in parts of six campaigns from 2003-04 to this year. Additionally, Bembridge has 69 career CHL appearances to his credit, including 66 games played for the Denver Cutthroats in 2013-14 during which Bembridge posted career highs in goals (42) and points (104).
Prior to his professional career, Bembridge collected 89 career goals and 188 combined points in 218 major junior appearances for his hometown WHL club, the Saskatoon Blades, in four seasons from 1997 to 2001.
Originally selected in the fifth round of the 1999 NHL Draft (137th overall) by the New York Rangers, Bembridge was re-selected by the Calgary Flames in the seventh round of the 2001 NHL Draft (207th overall) and spent parts of five seasons in the German and Italian professional ranks from 2004-05 to 2010-11.
