ECHL Recongizes K-Wings' Martin

KALAMAZOO- Earning victories in two appearances last week for the Kalamazoo Wings, goaltender Joel Martin was named CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the period of November 3rd-9th. This is the first time this season and fourth overall that Martin has received the league's weekly honor.

Protecting the crease Martin went 2-0-0-0 with a goals-against average of 1.44 and a save percentage of 0.933 in two games against the Elmira Jackals.

Martin stopped 23 shots in a 3-2 victory against Elmira on Friday then made 19 saves, and stopped all four shootout attempts, in a 2-1 shootout win against the Jackals on Saturday.

On the season Martin is 5-1-1-0 in eight appearances with a 2.92 goals-against average. Martin's five wins are tied for third in the league.

Martin has appeared in 193 career ECHL games with Columbus, Trenton, Elmira, Augusta and Kalamazoo posting an overall record of 98-70-19 with three shutouts, a 2.98 goals-against average and a save percentage of .907. During the 2012-13 season, he set an ECHL record by playing 3,739 minutes while his 63 games played and 2,051 saves are second all-time in a single season in league history.

Joel has recorded 55 of his 98 ECHL victories in Kalamazoo. The 55 victories are just three shy of tying netminder Ryan Nie for the first place in K-Wings' ECHL history.
