
Fort Wayne's Heard Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Mitchell Heard of the Fort Wayne Komets is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 3-9.
Heard scored three goals, added three assists and was a +4 in a pair of wins at Reading last week, helping the Komets improve their league-leading record to 8-1-0.
The 22-year-old tallied a goal and an assist in a 4-3 win on Friday then recorded four points (2g-2a), along with a +3 rating, in a 7-6 victory on Saturday.
Selected in the second round (41st overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Heard is third in the league with eight goals and tied for third with 13 points.
Under an NHL contract with the Avalanche, Heard had 12 points (4g-8a) in 63 games as a rookie last season with Lake Erie of the American Hockey League.
Prior to turning pro, Heard played three seasons with Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League where he scored 144 points (67g-77a) in 171 career games.
On behalf of Mitchell Heard, a case of pucks will be donated to a Fort Wayne youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 31,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
