Indy Fuel News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Continuing their efforts to re-tool the team, the Indy Fuel sustained their ninth consecutive defeat in bowing to the visiting Quad City Mallards Saturday night at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum by the score of 6-2.

Returning home following an unfounded five-games' road journey, the men of the Fuel succumbed to a Mallards come-from-behind rally consisting of 6-unanswered strikes after the home team had actually claimed a 1-0 first period lead on Alex Wideman's team-high 12th goal of the season. The Wideman goal triggered a major cascade of teddy bears, stuffed animals and other assorted furry creatures as the Fuel hosted their annual "Teddy Bear Toss Night."

However, 1:29 after Wideman had delivered his club with the lead, the Mallards riposted with a 3-goal flurry in 3:55 with the initial two strikes stoked in a rapid-fire fashion :29 with Brady Brassart and Mike Parks connecting for the victors.

Falling behind 6-1 midway through the third period, the Fuel did produce an electrifying shorthanded breakaway goal from Brady Ramsay on an impeccable arrangement from Patrick D'Amico. It was Ramsay second goal of the season and the Fuel's second SHG of the campaign.

Quad City outshot Indy, 32-29 in earning its second straight win at Indianapolis this season after having never-ever won here through the first two seasons of the Fuel's ECHL existence. Indy starting goaltender Eric Levine, who suffered his 10th loss in 11-decisions this season, was lifted at the 17:07 mark of the middle stanza after the "Quad Squad" had built a daunting 5-1 advantage. Keegan Asmundson surrendered a single goal in a relief role.

The setback was also the Fuel's fourth in succession at home as the Indy squad has not claimed victory since back on November 23rd when on home ice they defeated Kalamazoo, 5-3.

Fuel Head Coach Bernie John continued to effect changes in his lineup in his quest to upgrade his roster. On this date, he brought back center Mike Colantone from SPHL Peoria after Colantone had seen service in the Fuel pre-season. Also in another major trade, the Fuel sent right wing Tyler Currier and future considerations to the Wheeling Nailers for high-scoring lefty wing Josh Shalla who made his debut, arriving for the start of the second period of tonight's contest.

The Fuel continue their three-game home stand on Tuesday and Thursday nights when they play host the Brampton Beast in a 7:05 pm face-off both nights. These two games will conclude the Fuel's pre-Christmas schedule.

Next Home Game: Tuesday, December 20 vs. Brampton Beast - 7:05 p.m. Mardi Gras has come a few months early to Indiana Farmers Coliseum! Enjoy all-you-can-eat hot dogs, burgers, popcorn and nachos while you watch the Fuel take on the Beast. Leave the belt at home and fill your tank on us!
