Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans defeated the Wichita Thunder 6-1 in a game that saw a little bit of everything including big hits, a line brawl, and 136 penalty minutes.
The scoring started with Bryan Moore putting in a rebound past Thunder goalie Chris Driedger ten minutes into the first period on the power play. That would be all the scoring until Gary Steffes scored his 6th of the season 1:21 into the second period.
The second period is when the chaos started, beginning with a fight involving Derek Mathers and Vincent Arseneau. Soon after that a line brawl broke out involving Mike Gunn, Bryan Moore, Dyson Stevenson and Gary Steffes. Allen would come out of that shorthanded and while on the penalty kill the Americans gave up the only goal to get past Riley Gill.
Once the third period started and the physical play settled down Allen got back to scoring. Stevenson would get an assist on a goal from Zach Hall completing the Gordie Howe hat trick registering a goal, an assist, and a fight. David Makowski and Jake Marchment would add two more goals in the third period to give Allen the big 6-1 win.
"This had the feel of old school hockey game," said Americans defenseman Joel Chouinard. "It was testy from the opening puck drop. It had the intensity of a playoff game. These two teams don't care much for each other."
The Americans are back on the road this week as they take on the Thunder in a rematch Sunday and then head to Tulsa to play the Oilers. Allen returns home to play the Idaho Steelheads, a Dallas Stars affiliate, on December 22nd and 23rd.
