Indy Acquires Josh Shalla in Trade with Wheeling

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs announced Saturday that they have completed a trade with the Wheeling Nailers, receiving forward Josh Shalla in exchange for forward Tyler Currier and future considerations. The move comes before Indy returns to Indiana Farmers Coliseum to host the Quad City Mallards on Teddy Bear Toss night.

Shalla, 25, has tallied 18 points (10g, 8a) in 23 games for Wheeling this season, leading Nailers with 10 goals. The fifth-year pro from Oshawa, Ontario figures to bring some offense to the Fuel roster, bringing 82 goals and 79 assists over 161 career ECHL games with the Nailers, Toledo Walleye and Cincinnati Cyclones. Shalla eclipsed the 40-point plateau in each of his last two seasons, and participated in the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game after posting 28 points (21g, 7a) in 37 games with the Cyclones. Additionally, the fourth-round pick of the Nashville Predators in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft (No. #94 overall) has appeared in 58 AHL games with the Milwaukee Admirals, gathering five goals and 11 assists.

Currier, 28, ranked third on the Fuel with 11 points (5g, 6a) in 26 games this season. In four years as a pro, the native of Anchorage, Alaska has posted 34 goals and 28 assists in 62 ECHL contests with Indy, the Elmira Jackals, Missouri Mavericks and Alaska Aces.
