Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Brampton Beast goaltender Zach Fucale turned in a near-flawless 20-save performance while David Vallorani, Brandon MacLean and Chris Auger each lit the lamp to lead the Beast to an exciting 3-1 victory over the Toledo Walleye at the Powerade Centre on Fridya night.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the first period taking their turns on the power play. However, Fucale and Walleye starter Jake Paterson kept the game scoreless after the first twenty minutes. Fucale stopped all eight shots he faced, while Paterson kicked out each of the ten shots the Beast took in the first frame.

After holding a powerful Walleye club off the scoreboard to start the game, the Beast came out flying in the second period. Coming into the Toledo zone, Connor Crisp found Brandon MacLean alone with space on Paterson. A quick move from MacLean opened up the goaltender's five-hole and MacLean made no mistake sliding the puck along the ice and just over the goal line to give the Beast a 1-0 lead at 2:25.

The game remained close into the third period until the Beast pushed their lead to 2-0. Vallorani cut into the offensive zone and accepted a perfect backhand pass from David Ling and redirected home his 22nd goal of the season at the 9:40 mark of the final period.

Chris Auger cemented the Beast's victory late in the third period. With a man in the box, the Walleye pulled Paterson in favour of a 6-on-4 advantage. Right off a defensive-zone face off, Auger located the puck off the draw and found the open net from his own face-off circle for a shorthanded goal and a 3-0 lead.

Toledo didn't win but their power play spoiled what would have been a perfect game by the Beast with a late goal before time expired. Simon Denis scored with just five seconds remaining in the game to keep Fucale from earning his second shutout of the season.

Fucale stopped 20 of 21 shots in the game while Paterson stopped 24 of 26.

Notes: Molson Three Stars: 3) Vallorani 2) MacLean 1) Fucale. The Beast depart for a five-game road trip over the next nine days starting tomorrow with a rematch with the Walleye. At the Huntington Center. After the Walleye, Brampton will go to Indy then Wheeling for two games and finally finish off their trip with a game against Fort Wayne. The Beast will return to the Powerade Centre on February 20th for their Family Day game against the Wheeling Nailers. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 pm.
