Wichita, KS (Feb. 10th) - In front of 7,076 fans for the annual Go Red for Women Night, Wichita lost to the Colorado Eagles by the final of 5-2 at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Jamie Doornbosch and Zach O'Brien potted goals for the Thunder in the losing effort.
Luke Salazar got the scoring started just three minutes into the game as he collected a pass in the left circle and beat Scott Greenham to make it 1-0. Zach O'Brien tied the game four minutes later as he punched home a rebound through Clarke Saunders at the front of the crease. Salazar added his second of the frame when a shot from the point re-directed off his skate and past Greenham to make it 2-1.
Alex Belzile increased the lead to 3-1 with five minutes left in the second. Wichita received a late power play and Doornbosch tucked in a loose puck in the blue paint after it went through Saunders to cut the lead to 3-2.
In the third, Colorado added to their lead with two power play goals. Matt Register scored at 3:27 to make it 4-2. The Eagles were given a two-man advantage with four minutes left. Jake Marto fired one in as the first penalty was coming to a close to make it 5-2.
Doornbosch added his eighth goal of the season and has points in his last four games (2g, 5a). O'Brien added a goal and an assist. Greenham suffers the loss, stopping 34 of 39 shots. Saunders earns the win, stopping 19 of 21 shots he faced.
Wichita went 1-for-4 on the power play. Colorado was 2-for-5 on the man advantage.
