Americans and Rush: Part 2

February 10, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release

Rapid City, SD - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, face the Rapid City Rush tonight at 8:05 PM CST at the Rushmore Civic Center.

The Americans rallied on Wednesday night to tie the game in the third period, and then win it in overtime on the 12th goal of the season from Eric Roy. The victory ended the Americans one-game losing streak and evened the season series with the Rush at 1-1. The Americans will look to win the three-game series with a victory tonight, and move to 15 games over .500.

"We had some critical turnovers the other night," said Americans Head Coach and General Manager, Steve Martinson. "The other thing we didn't do very well on Wednesday night was win battles for the puck. We can play better. We're doing just enough to win."

The Americans will be shorthanded tonight, losing defenseman Harrison Ruopp, who was loaned to the San Jose Barracuda today. Allen will also be without forward Tanner Eberle for the next 3 to 4 weeks with a lower-body injury. Miles Liberati is also expected to miss tonight's game with a slight injury. The injuries and player departures for the AHL will give players like Randy Cure and Kale Kerbashian a chance to get back in the Allen lineup. Cure played for the first time in five games on Wednesday night, and Kerbashian has been out of the lineup for the last few games.

Riley Gill, who came in for Jamie Murray in the third period on Wednesday, is expected to be back between the pipes tonight. Gill leads the ECHL in both save percentage (941), and goals-against average (2.03).

The Rush lost one of their top forwards on Wednesday, when Lindsay Sparks left the team to go to Europe. Rapid City is 3-6-1-0 in their last ten games, bringing up the rear in the ECHL Mountain Division, 26 points behind the Americans and Colorado.

Puck drop tonight is at 8:05 PM CST from the Black Hills. You can watch the game at the game at The Franchise in Plano, or on ECHL TV. Listen for free on Mixlr at http://mixlr.com/allen-americans-hockey/ .
