Bakersfield Condors News Release
Fresno, Calif. - Charles Simard had a goal and two assists and Brett Jaeger stopped 38 shots to lead the Fresno Falcons to a 4-2 victory over the Bakersfield Condors at the Save Mart Center on Saturday night.
The Falcons appeared to catch the Condors off guard in the opening frame and took a 2-0 lead into the dressing room after one. Jim Lorentz and Terry Marchant both tallied for the Falcons, with Marchant's power play goal coming with less than a minute remaining in the period. Fresno led in shots 12-5.
Fresno extended the lead at 5:09 of the second period when Mike Kiesman banged in a rebound out of midair to make it 3-0. Three of the Fresno captain's four goals this season have come against Bakersfield. Ryan Gillis put the Condors on the board with a power play score midway through the period, but the Falcons held the 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Charles Simard, who had two assists already, netted his sixth goal of the season early in the third period to put the game out of reach, 4-1. Guy Dupuis added a final lamplighter for the Condors, but it's as close as they would get. It was the first regulation loss for Bakersfield in the last eight games, and the Condors fell to 0-1-3 at Save Mart Center.
The Condors play tomorrow in Fresno at 5:00 p.m. and then return to host the Alaska Aces on Friday, March 18th and Saturday, March 19th. On the 18th, the Condors will honor the 25th anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice" by wearing replica 1980 USA jerseys from those fateful Winter Games. As with all jersey raffle and auctions, five of the game-worn jerseys will be raffled off throughout the night and the rest will be auctioned off after the game to raise money for the Petroleum Shrine Club, sponsored by KGET-TV 17, The Big 96.5 and American Business Machines. On the 19th, 106.1 KRAB Radio presents the Oakland Raiderettes, performing during intermissions and greeting fans.
Season ticket, mini-plans and group outings can still be reserved by contacting the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825) for more information. Individual game tickets are now on sale and may be purchased through the Rabobank Arena box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday.
