
Gladiators Beat Stingrays, 6-3

Mike Stathopoulos picked up a pair of goals for the Gladiators while Cam Brown posted two assists in a 6-3 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday afternoon at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Andrew Oke got the scoring going early in the first period beating Stingray's netminder Gergg Naumenko with a wrist shot from the blue line. Chris Durno added an assist on the goal 64 seconds into the first period. Joe Bourne also picked up a helper on the play.
South Carolina tied the game up at 1-1, later in the first period as Rich Peverly slid the puck under Adam Berkhoel for the tally. Mark Ardelan and Jeremy Stevenson picked up the helpers on the goal.
Mike Vigilante regained the lead for the Gladiators at 9:29 of the opening period. Jeff Campbell slid the puck across the crease to a waiting Vigilante for the power play goal. Brad Schell also picked up an assist on the goal.
Carlyle Lewis knotted the game at 2-2 later in the first period stuffing the puck past Berkhoel with 8:18 remaining in the first period. Matt Reid and Joe Tenute added the assists on the tally.
Mike Stathopoulos' first of two goals in the game gave the Gladiators a lead they would not relinquish burying the puck past Naumenko at 14:51 of the opening period. Lane Manson and Cam Brown added the assists on the goal.
Brad Schell extended the Gladiators lead to 4-2 on the power play 9:29 into the second period. The puck rolled right to Schell in the bottom of the right wing face off circle where the rookie banged the puck home. Stathopoulos and Joe Bourne picked up the assists on the tally.
South Carolina recorded their final goal of the night, a shorthanded tally, with just 1:13 left in the second period. Jeremy Stevenson beat Berkhoel on the 2-on-1 break with Brad Parsons to cut the Gladiators lead to a goal.
Gwinnett regained the 2-goal advantage on Kris Goodjohn's 18th goal of the season. Chris Durno clanked the puck off the post from the right wing circle that Goodjohn put back for the tally. Libor Ustrnul added an assist on the goal 3:34 into the third period.
Stathopoulos capped the scoring with his second of the night, a wrap around stuffed behind Naumenko at 5:54 of the third period. Alex Sawruk and Brown picked up the helpers on the tally.
Adam Berkhoel made 30 saves for the Gladiators in the win helping the Gladiators improve to 31-18-8 on the year and break 70 points.
