FLORENCE, SC -- The Gwinnett Gladiators defeated the Pee Dee Pride 4-1 on Saturday night in front of 2,326 fans at the Florence Civic Center.
Gwinnett got on the scoreboard just 2:29 into the contest with a shorthanded goal. Pride goaltender Nick Boucher came out to play the puck, but could not get back to the net in time as Randy Dagenais slid a shot into the open net for his 14th goal of the season.
Pee Dee came back to the tie game with a power-play goal at 14:35. Steve Hildenbrand gathered in a pass in the slot and ripped a shot past Sean Fields for his 14th goal of the season. Gregg Johnson earned an assist on the goal to extend his point streak to eight games.
The Gladiators seized control of the game scoring a pair of goals just 43 seconds apart late in the third period. Joe Bourne tallied a power-play marker at 16:04, and Mike Stathopoulos scored a back-breaking goal at 16:47.
Jeff Campbell set the final, beating Boucher just 19 seconds into the third period.
