Fresno Forces Series Split Behind Four-Run First

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (62-64) dropped the series finale with the Fresno Grizzlies (59-66) by a score of 6-1, but with the Memphis Redbirds losing both doubleheader games at Colorado Springs the lead in the division increased to 2.0 games with 18 left to play. The Chasers and Redbirds will now lock up in a pivotal five-game series at AutoZone Park in Memphis.

Left-hander John Lamb made his Triple-A debut for the Storm Chasers in the game, and was greeted with four Fresno runs in the first inning on five singles as well as scoring on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. After the four-run first Lamb only allowed one runner past second base and three baserunners total in his final four innings of work, and finished the day with five innings, six hits, five runs and five strikeouts. Lamb was promoted straight from High-A Wilmington and had not made an appearance even as high as the Double-A level since May 19, 2011.

For a second straight game the entirety of the Omaha offense came on a solo home run, this time off the bat of Paulo Orlando in the third inning for his lone hit on the day. Orlando had not hit a homer at Werner Park in his first 65 career games at the stadium, but has now hit two long balls at home in the span of six days. The last seven homers for Omaha have been solo shots.

The series split with the Grizzlies is the seventh consecutive split between the two teams at Omaha, and the last series that did not result in a split occurred all the way back in 2001. The Chasers went 3-5 on the homestand against Sacramento and Fresno, but still hold the 2.0 game advantage in the division they had entering the eight games with the non-conference foes.

In game one of a series that could determine the division winner, the Storm Chasers will send out PCL All-Star Chris Dwyer(8-10, 3.60), who has not earned a win in three starts against Memphis despite allowing just five earned runs in 18.1 total innings. Dwyer will face off with Redbirds left-hander Tyler Lyons (7-2, 3.39) with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m., and coverage on 1180 Zone 2 The Duece and www.omahastormchasers.com getting underway at 6:45 p.m. CDT.
