ROUND ROCK, Texas - Former University of Texas quarterback and star pitcher James Street will appear at Dell Diamond tonight, August 15 for the 7:05 p.m. series finale between the Express and Rainiers. Due to transportation issues, Street will not be at the stadium in time to throw out the first pitch prior to the game.
Street played quarterback for the Texas Longhorns from 1966-1969, posting an undefeated record (20-0) as a starter from 1968 to the end of the 1969 season. He engineered the "wishbone" offense and led Texas to the 1969 National Championship, defeating Arkansas 15-14 in what became known as "The Big Shootout."
As a starting pitcher for the Longhorns, Street tossed two no-hitters and led Texas to two Southwest Conference titles. In 2000, he was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and is the father of former Longhorn All-American, National Champion, College World Series saves record holder and 2010 NCAA College World Series Legends Team member, Huston Street.
The Express and Rainiers continue a four-game series Tuesday night at Dell Diamond. The E-Train will don its 1959 Austin Senators jerseys for the 7:05 p.m. start on Turn Back Tuesday, presented by Cedar Park Premier Dentistry featuring half-price tickets. Right-hander Evan Meek (5-7, 3.80 ERA) will take the mound for Round Rock, while Tacoma will send Andrew Carraway (6-5, 4.80 ERA) to the hill.
