Tacoma Rainiers News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas -- The Tacoma Rainiers used a big inning to rally past the Round Rock Express 8-6 at Dell Diamond on Wednesday night.

Tacoma trailed 6-3 before exploding with five runs on two hits in the top of the eighth inning. Stefen Romero lined an RBI single and Joe Dunigan drew a bases-loaded walk with one out to bring the Rainiers within a run. One out later, Jason Jaramillo hit into a ground out that drove in Romero and evened the score at 6-6.

The go-ahead runs came in Tacoma's next at-bat when a throwing error committed by Express third baseman Mike Bianucci allowed both Dunigan and shortstop Carlos Triunfel to come home.

Tacoma combined to collect six hits in the contest, including a 1-for-5 effort from Rich Poythress that included a two-run single that tied the score at 3-3 in the third inning.

Reliever Chance Ruffin earned the win after holding the Express to one hit over three shutout innings beginning in the sixth. Right-hander Logan Bawcom collected the game's final out on the way to garnering his team-leading 19th save of the season.

Tom Wilhelmsen surrendered three runs on two hits and three walks over 1.2 innings in his second start and third appearance with the Rainiers this season.

The Rainiers (66-59) play the fourth and final game of a four-game series at Round Rock (64-61) tomorrow, August 15th. Right-hander Taijuan Walker (3-2, 3.73) is slated to start for Tacoma against Express left-hander Ryan Feirabend (5-4, 3.70). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
