August 15, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Isotopes (67-57) could not recover from the Bees' (72-53) four-run fourth, dropping game three of their four-game set 7-2. The Isotopes did not commit an error for the second straight game.
Rusty Ryal went 3-for-3 on the night with a run, two RBI, a double and a home run. The second baseman leads the 2013 Isotopes with nine three-hit games on the season and he recorded his sixth two-RBI contest.
The Isotopes fell behind 1-0 after the first inning but rebounded in the second. Brian Barden drew a two-out walk and Ryal followed with his fourth home run of the season, staking Albuquerque to 2-1 advantage.
Salt Lake then went on to score six unanswered runs building a 7-2 lead. The leadoff hitter for the Bees reached safely in each of the first six innings.
Jonathan Sanchez (5-6, 5.05) went five innings allowing five runs on ten hits, including two home runs. The southpaw took the loss; he walked three and struck out seven. He has fanned 15 hitters over his past two starts.
Stephen Fife came out of the bullpen for his second straight appearance in the sixth frame. The righty went two innings allowing two runs on three hits.
The Isotopes helped Fife defensively in his first inning of work. Drew Heid was at the plate with runners on the corner when Efren Navarron took off for second. The throw went to Justin Sellers who immediately returned the throw to Drew Butera. The catcher tagged out Luis Jimenez trying to steal home for the third out.
Anthony Ortega and southpaw Kelvin De La Cruz each tossed a scoreless inning in the eighth and ninth respectively. De La Cruz walked one and struck out two. Matt Shoemaker (10-13, 4.93) earned the win for Salt Lake tossing seven innings of two-run baseball.
The Isotopes and Bees complete their only series of the 2013 regular season with the first pitch schedule for 6:35 PM. Undefeated Matt Magill (4-0, 2.54) will take the mound against Salt Lake's Jarrett Grube (5-5, 4.88). Catch all of the game action on 610 AM "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
