
Isotopes Drop Home Opener against Reno, 8-1

Albuquerque, NM - With the Isotopes trailing, 2-1, entering the top of the eighth, the Aces plated six runs in the frame to propel Reno to an 8-1 victory over Albuquerque Tuesday night at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park.
Topes Scope: - Gabriel Hughes tossed 5.0 innings of two-run ball while striking out eight, tying a career-high (fifth time; last: May 31, 2023, at Tri-City). His eight strikeouts also tie a franchise record for most strikeouts by a starting pitcher in a Home Opener (also: Travis Smith, April 7, 2005, vs. Iowa).
-With the loss, the Isotopes fall to 14-9 all-time in Home Openers. The club has dropped six of their last seven Home Openers.
-The seven-run loss is tied for the second-largest margin of defeat in a Home Opener in franchise history (also: 2019 vs. Salt Lake, 11-4; largest: 2025 vs. Salt Lake, 15-1).
-Albuquerque plated just one run, tying a team record for fewest runs in the Home Opener (also: April 1, 2025, vs. Salt Lake, 15-1).
-The Isotopes pitching staff recorded 11 strikeouts on the night, the second-straight contest with 11 punchouts. The club has 37 strikeouts on the year, third-most in the PCL.
-Zac Veen went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his first rehab game with the Isotopes.
-Blaine Crim went 1-for-3 with a single in his first rehab game with the Isotopes.
-Vimael Machin collected three hits on the night, including a triple. Over his first three games with Albuquerque is 5-for-9 with a triple and four walks.
-Cole Carrig went 2-for-4 with a double. He has a hit in each of his first four games at Triple-A, including two multi-hit contests.
-Charlie Condon went 0-for-4 with three punchouts, his first hitless game at Triple-A.
On Deck: The Isotopes and Aces meet for game two of the series tomorrow at 6:35 pm MT at RGCU Field at Isotopes Park. Albuquerque is expected to send Sean Sullivan to the hill while Reno is slated to start Mitch Bratt.
