LAS VEGAS, NV - Matt Fox dealt seven shut-out innings allowing four hits to deliver the Las Vegas 51's an 8-1 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs at Cashman Field.
Fox picked up his sixth win of season to improve his record to 6-4. The 51's starter was in complete control scattering four hits, walked a pair and struck-out two.
The Las Vegas offense jumped on the Z's early. Vegas scored a pair in the first inning off of starter Brad Hand. Travis d'Arnaud drew a two out walk and scored on a Lucas Duda double. Eric Campbell doubled home Duda and Vegas led 2-0.
The 51's took advantage of a Zephyrs error in the second with a two out single from Kirk Nieuwenhuis that scored Matt den Dekker.
Nieuwenhuis led the sixth inning off with an inside the park home run. He drilled a ball off the centerfield wall and it took a wild ricochet and he scampered around the bases scoring ahead of the throw home.
Brad Hand (3-5) had his shortest outing of the season working 3.2 innings, allowed six runs on seven hits.
Las Vegas scored four of its runs with two outs in an inning. The win vaults Las Vegas into a first place tie with Sacramento. New Orleans falls to (61-64) on the season.
Game Notes - The Zephyrs have allowed a first inning run in five of their last six contests. The Zephyrs allowed an inside the park home run for the first time since 2008 when Wladimir Balentien on May 28, 2008 in Tacoma.
Coming Up- The Zephyrs continue the road-trip Thursday from Las Vegas at 9:05. New Orleans will start RH Sam Dyson (1-1, 1.54) vs. 51's RH Rafael Montero (4-3, 3.60). RADIO: WMTI 106.1 FM "The Ticket". The Zephyrs return home on Friday against the Cubs for a five game set at Zephyr Field.
