Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
The Salt Lake Bees blasted three home runs in rout to their 8-1 victory over the Isotopes in the series finale Thursday night at Isotopes Park. Designated hitter Eliezer Alfonzo was the only Isotope to record more than one hit on the evening.
Salt Lake struck first when designated hitter Robbie Widlansky blasted a two-run home run in the fourth inning off Magill. With two outs, Luis Jimenez knocked an RBI single to left to extend the Bees' lead to 3-0.
The Bees tacked on two more in the fifth to drive Magill out of the game. Luis Rodriguez led off with a double. He then scored on a sacrifice fly from second base on a ball Angle caught on the hill in center. Windlansky followed with his second home run in as many at-bats to end the righty's night.
Sean White recorded the final two outs to end the frame. Magill tossed 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, walking three and fanning five and suffering the loss. White allowed a two-run shot of his own to John Hester in the seventh for Salt Lake's seventh run.
The Isotopes tallied their only run of the game in their half of the fifth. Rusty Ryal was hit by a pitch and moved to third on an Eliezer Alfonzo double to deep center. It was his first extra-base hit and multi-hit game (2-for-3) since joining Albuquerque on Monday. Brian Barden grounded out to third, scoring Ryal for the Topes first run.
Elian Herrera led off the sixth with a single and Matt Angle laid down a perfect bunt single. Both advanced on a wild pitch to put two in scoring position with no outs, but Albuquerque could not cash in, stranding the two runners. The Topes were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position on the night.
Blake Johnson entered in the eighth for his first appearance since being activated from the disabled list yesterday. The Louisiana native allowed one run on two hits and struck out two in his two innings of work. He tossed a perfect ninth.
Jarrett Grube (6-5, 4.67) earned the win for Salt Lake tossing six innings of one run baseball, striking out six.
The Isotopes will go head-to-head with their first place foes in Oklahoma City for a five-game road trip starting tomorrow. RHP Red Patterson (6-4, 3.38) will toe the rubber against RHP David Martinez (0-1, 8.31) when the clubs open their series tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. All the action can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
