
Four Stingrays Earn Multiple-Point Games in 7-2 Win over Trenton

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (18-6-1-3) beat the Trenton Devils (9-13-2-2) 7-2 Saturday night in front of 4,405 at North Charleston Coliseum. Forwards Trent Campbell, Gregg Johnson, Keith Johnson, and Matt Fornataro all earned multiple points as the Stingrays pushed their winning steak to nine games.
The Stingrays started the scoring early in the first period with a tally from Jake Hauswirth at 4:11 beating Devils goaltender Gerald Coleman under the right arm. Fornataro recorded the lone assist. Stingrays forward G. Johnson gave South Carolina a two goal lead at 11:10 from Fornataro and Nikita Kashirsky. The Stingrays made it 3-0 just over a minute later as K. Johnson buried a shot high glove-side on Coleman. Johnson's tenth of the year was assisted by Campbell. The goal marked the end of Coleman's night and was pulled in favor of Dave Caruso. Coleman stopped one shot on four Stingrays chances in 12:17 of play. The Devils responded to the change with a tally from Tony Zancanaro at 15:22 from Kyle Kucharski and Justin Pender. The Stingrays regained a three-goal lead at 18:54 thanks to Johann Kroll from Campbell and K. Johnson.
South Carolina continued the scoring in the second period with markers from Campbell at 9:53 and Fornataro at 19:09 to go up 6-1. K. Johnson assisted Campbell's fifth of the season while G. Johnson and Kashirsky earned helpers for Fornataro's 12 of the year.
The Devils grabbed one more goal in the third period from Dave Leaderer at 6:37 from Jeff Prough and Matt Vokes, but Stingrays rookie forward Rob Ricci responded at 13:25 with an unassisted short-handed goal to finish the game scoring. The Devils finished the contest going 0-for-3 on the power play while the Stingrays went 0-for-2. Caruso made 20 saves on 24 Stingrays shots in 47:43 of play while Todd Ford earns his eleventh win of the season knocking aside 31 of 33 Devils chances.
The Stingrays continue their three-in-three home weekend Sunday, December 13, against the Charlotte Checkers at 4:00 p.m. at North Charleston Coliseum.
