Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Cyclones got a goal and an assist from Dustin Sproat to take a 3-2 win from the Reading Royals on Saturday night. The win was the club's season-best fifth straight triumph.
Each team scored a first period goal to take a 1-1 tie into the dressing rooms at the first intermission. The Cyclones scored first when Mike McLean broke in shorthanded and buried his seventh goal of the campaign at 4:42. It was the seventh shorthanded goal by Cincinnati-second-most in the ECHL. Ryan Del Monte fed the puck to McLean for the goal. Reading evened the scores at 13:10 when Olivier Labelle netted his fifth goal of the season on a turnover deep in the Cincinnati zone. Andrew Sarauer and Charlie Kronschnabel had the assists. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati, 10-9, in the opening frame.
The Cyclones scored twice in the second period-with lamplighters 30 seconds apart. Dustin Sproat's tenth goal of the campaign at 14:38 came from Brett Robinson and Brett Motherwell. At 15:08, rookie Matt Pierce snapped off his 13th goal of the year from Sproat to extend the lead to 3-1. The Cyclones doubled up the Royals in shots during the period, 14-7.
In the third period, Marc Cavosie's second goal of the season at 14:48 on the power play closed the deficit to 3-2, as Stefano Giliati and Danick Bouchard had the assists. Reading had three power play chances in the final period and pulled the goaltender for most of the final 2:02-but could not level the scores. The shots favored Reading, 10-7, in the third. For the game Cincinnati outshot Reading, 31-26.
Robert Mayer stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced to collect his sixth win of the season. Beau Erickson turned away 28 of the 31 shots he faced in taking his second loss of the year. The Royals were one for seven on the power play, while the Cyclones did not score in four tries.
