Bridgeport Islanders News Release
Mike Morrison recorded his second straight home shutout with a 40 save performance in the Bridgeport Sound Tigers' 4-0 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Saturday night at Arena at Harbor Yard. The win pushed the Sound Tigers unbeaten streak to three games on the strength of four different players recording two-points.
The Sound Tigers opened the scoring 18:11 into the first period. Jeremy Colliton centered a puck from the right corner, ricocheting off the skate of a Penguins' defender at the top of the crease and past Penguins' starting goalie John Curry. Sean Bentivoglio and Jamie Fraser picked up the assists on Colliton's seventh tally of the season which came on the power-play.
Bentivoglio made it 2-0 in favor of the Sound Tigers just under three minutes to play in the second period. Tim Jackman fed a hard pass toards Bentivoglio who deflected the puck over Curry's right pad. Trevor Smith collected an assist on the Bentivoglio's sixth goal of the year.
Just 15 seconds later, the Sound Tigers jumped out to a three-goal lead on Ben Walter's 15th goal this season. Steve Regier centered the puck from below the goal-line to Walter, waiting at the near post, where he chipped the puck through Curry for the 3-0 lead. Jackman collected another assist after taking the initial shot that the Penguins' net-minder kicked aside. Walter's goal combined with Bentivoglio's marker, tied the franchise record for fastest consecutive goals in history.
Fraser closed the scoring when he netted his fifth goal of the season while the Sound Tigers had the man-advantage. Ben Walter started the play from the right point where he sent a pass to Regier in the right circle. Regier walked towards the net and saucered a pass to Fraser at the back door where the Sound Tigers' defenseman snapped a shot over Curry for the 4-0 lead.
Morrison continued his stellar play at home for the Sound Tigers recording his second shutout in as many games with 40 saves. Over the past two games, Morrison has totaled 81 saves.
The Sound Tigers scored twice with the man-advantage, while holding the Penguins 0-for-5 with the extra attacker. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton out-shot the Sound Tigers 40 to 27.
Tomorrow afternoon, the Sound Tigers will host the Hartford Wolf Pack at 4 p.m. The first 1,500 who enter the building will receive the third set of team cards.
