February 16, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany River Rats News Release
ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that defensemen Joey Mormina has been returned on loan to Albany by the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League.
Mormina, 25, was called up to Carolina on February 14th and made his NHL debut that night in the Hurricanes' 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the RBC Center. The Montreal, Quebec native logged 7:45 of ice time in 11 shifts, registered four hits, including two big checks that made the highlight reel, and also had one shot in the game. Mormina has appeared in 51 of the River Rats 53 games this season, missing one as a healthy scratch and the other due to NHL call-up; he has six points (2 goals, 4 assists) and 70 penalty minutes this season for Albany. Mormina, in his third year of professional hockey, was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round (193rd overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, but signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Kings and playing two seasons with their AHL affiliate Manchester following his college career at Colgate University.
Albany will complete their three-game home stand on Saturday, February 16th when they host the first place Philadelphia Phantoms and hold their big 15th anniversary celebration; face off is scheduled for 7:00 pm at the Times Union Center.
Partial season tickets and flex ticket packages for the 2007-08 River Rats season are on sale now. For more information please contact the Albany River Rats at (518) 487-2244 or online at www.albanyriverrats.com.
