Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs scored twice in the third period to tie the game 3-3, then tallied four consecutive goals in the shootout to drop the Lake Erie Monsters 4-3 on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum. With the win, the Bulldogs fifth in as many games against the Monsters this season, the 'Dogs record improves to 25-21-1-5 on the season.

After a scoreless first period, the teams exchanged goals 22 seconds apart early in the middle stanza. Lake Erie opened the scoring at 1:59 of the frame when Chris Stewart notched his 16th goal of the season. Hamilton then tied the game at the 2:21 mark when Kyle Chipchura fed Janne Lahti who banged home his seventh tally of the campaign. Brock Trotter, who suited up in his first-career AHL game, recorded his first point with the other assist on the 1-1 goal.

The Monsters restored their one-goal lead at 5:34 of the second period on Eric Healey's 12th marker of the season. Jamie Lundmark drew the only assist on the play.

Kenny Roche extended Lake Erie's lead at 15:33 of the second frame, making the score 3-1. The goal chased Hamilton's starting netminder Yann Danis from the net in favour of Jaroslav Halak.

The Bulldogs cut into the Monsters' lead at 6:58 of the third period when Mathieu Biron registered a shorthanded goal to make the score 3-2. Mikhail Grabovski and Matt D'Agostini recorded assists on Biron's second marker of the season.

Grabovski then tied the game 3-3 with a power-play goal at the 12:41 mark of the third stanza. Daniel Corso and Marvin Degon picked up assists on the goal that sent the game to overtime.

After overtime solved nothing, the game went to a shootout. D'Agostini, Corey Locke, Grabovski and Corso all scored for the Bulldogs, while Halak turned aside 3-of-4 Monsters' shooters to preserve the 4-3 win for the 'Dogs.

Between the pipes, Danis made 18 saves on 21 shots before being replaced by Halak who stopped all 22 of the shots he faced to earn the victory for Hamilton. At the other end of the ice, Jason Bacashihua turned aside 23 of 26 shots for Lake Erie but was unable to stop any of the four shooters in the shootout and suffered the loss.

The Bulldogs were 1-for-4 with the man advantage while the Monsters went 0-for-3 on the power play.
