
Falcons Host Bruins Saturday Night

The Springfield Falcons and Providence Bruins meet for the eighth time this season when they get together on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons are 2-3-1-1 against the Bruins this season, including 0-2-1-0 at "The Nest." Springfield's last meeting against Providence was back on January 25 when the Falcons lost to the Bruins in a shootout by a score of 4-3.
Falcons defenseman T.J. Kemp leads Springfield in scoring against the Bruins this season with seven assists in six games played. Center Marc Pouliot leads the Falcons in goals against the Bruins this season with four and he is also second in points with six. Three out of the seven head-to-head games between the Falcons and Bruins this year have gone either to overtime or the shootout.
Pascal Pelletier is Providence's active leader in scoring against the Falcons this year with four goals and three assists for seven points in six games played.
The Falcons head into Saturday's contest looking to snap a two-game losing streak after falling to the Hartford Wolf Pack by a score of 6-1 on Friday evening. Both Liam Reddox and Viacheslav Trukhno returned to the lineup for the Falcons on Friday. Springfield remains in the fourth and final playoff spot within the Atlantic Division with a record of 23-21-4-5 good for 55 points. The Falcons will play two home games over the next three days as they host the Manchester Monarchs on Monday afternoon as well.
The Bruins visit Springfield having lost to the Portland Pirates by a score of 4-2 on Friday night on home ice. Providence continues to lead the AHL in points with a record of 38-11-2-1 good for 79 points. The Bruins have a six point lead on the Hartford Wolf Pack for the top spot in the Atlantic Division.
FALCONS TRANSACTIONS: The Falcons announced Saturday that they signed forward Les Reaney to a standard American Hockey League contract, while also signing defenseman Chris Murray to a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO). The Falcons also announced they have released forward Daniel Sparre from his Professional Tryout Agreement.
Reaney is beginning his pro career after spending the last three seasons with Niagara University. In 25 games with Niagara this season, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound native of Ceylon, Saskatchewan tallied five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 25 games. Reaney averaged a point-a-game last season with Niagara collecting 16 goals and 28 assists for 44 points in 37 games ranking third on the team in scoring last year.
Murray is in his first full season of professional hockey after completing his four-year collegiate career with the University of New Hampshire Wildcats during the 2006-07 campaign. In 45 games with the Phoenix Roadrunners of the ECHL this year, the Dover, MA native registered one goal and 13 assists for 14 points and 122 penalty minutes. Murray has also played in one game with the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL this season and the 6-foot-2, 190-pound blueliner made his AHL debut with the Peoria Rivermen at the end of last year.
Sparre played in four games with the Falcons after signing a Professional Tryout Agreement back on February 6. The Brampton, Ontario native collected three assists in his time with the Springfield.
POULIOT EXTENDS STREAK: Center Marc Pouliot has collected at least a point in five straight games recording five goals and three assists for eight points in that span. Pouliot was the game's first star on February 8 against Philadelphia scoring two goals and one assist, while also playing in his 200th pro game on February 9 against Lowell. Pouliot scored a pair of goals this past Wednesday in Hartford.
PROVIDENCE TEAM AND PLAYER NOTES: Pascal Pelletier has points in two straight games collecting two goals and one assist in that span....Martins Karsums has points in two straight games collecting one goal and two assists in that span....Brett Skinner is currently on a four-game scoring streak registering one goal and three assists in that stretch.
