Falcons Beat Bruins 2-1

The Springfield Falcons beat the Providence Bruins 2-1 on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons now have a four-point lead on the Manchester Monarchs for the fourth and final playoff spot within the Atlantic Division.

The Falcons opened the scoring at 12:52 of the first period when Stephen Werner scored his fifth goal of the season, shorthanded, giving Springfield a 1-0 lead. Providence tied the score at 1-1 when Nate Thompson fired a slap shot past Falcons goaltender Devan Dubnyk at 15:46 of the opening frame.

The Falcons regained their lead at 2-1 when Marc Pouliot scored his 18th marker of the season at 18:57 of the first period.

Dubnyk was very solid between the pipes making 28 saves and earning the game's first star.
