WORCESTER, M.A. - After leading the International League in slugging during April, the Worcester Red Sox (13-11) carried their offense in to May, opening the month with a 10-6 win over the Buffalo Bisons (14-10) in front of the sixth sellout at Polar Park this season, a season-high 9,103.

The WooSox put up 10 hits and matched season-highs in extra-base hits (6) and home runs (4) in the victory on Sunday afternoon. In the second, Christin Stewart set the tone, smashing a two-run home run over the Worcester Wall that skipped out of the ballpark altogether, coming to rest in the parking lot beyond Summit Street for Stewart's fourth of the year.

An inning later, Triston Casas doubled home Jeter Downs on a rip to right, which at that point tied the game at four. Rob Refsnyder was next-he worked a 2-2 count, then lined the sixth pitch he saw over the left centerfield wall to give Worcester a 6-4 lead.

Refsnyder has now reached safely in all 14 Triple-A games he's played in this season, a stretch interrupted only by a brief stint with Boston this week.

The big blows kept coming from Worcester in the fifth, a frame that began with a single by Jonathan Araúz. The 23-year-old went 1-2 with two runs scored, beginning a rehab assignment today in Triple-A as he returns from the COVID-19 Related Injured List.

Jeter Downs was the next batter, and he cracked a two-run homer to blast the game open, a carbon copy of his home run on Saturday that landed below the scoreboard in left. Three pitches later, Triston Casas made it the first back-to-back home runs of the season for the WooSox on a ball that just got over the wall in right center, despite a bid to rob it from centerfielder Nathan Lukes. From there, the WooSox went double, single, walk, walk, and Yolmer Sanchez brought home the team's tenth run with a sac-fly to center, scoring Ryan Fitzgerald.

On the other side, Buffalo got four runs in the first two innings, three of which were charged to Worcester starter Darwinzon Hernandez. The left-hander went 1.1 innings, allowing two hits, walking three and striking out four. Durbin Feltman two Bisons tallies, back-to-back RBI doubles in the eighth from Logan Warmoth and Lukes. Darin Gillies, Eduard Bazardo, John Schreiber and Kaleb Ort all turned in scoreless frames in their respective innings.

The WooSox are off Monday and begin a six-game series on the road against the Toledo Mud Hens on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. On the mound, Connor Seabold (2-0, 1.74) is the scheduled starter for Worcester. Radio coverage is live at 6:15 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon, 100 FM The Pike and the WooSox Radio Network.
