Rochester Red Wings News Release
Multi-hit games from Nick Banks and Tres Barrera carried a potent Red Wings offense as Rochester slugged their way to an 8-3 win and a series victory over the Syracuse Mets at Frontier Field Sunday afternoon.
The Mets (8-15) scored first, crossing the plate twice in the first inning, on an RBI groundout by designated hitter Patrick Mazeika, and an RBI single from left fielder Carlos Cortes. This marks the fourth game of the six-game series that Red Wings (13-11) starters have allowed Syracuse to score in the first inning.
Rochester fired back quickly though, scoring five runs in the second inning, including two on a bases-clearing triple by Tres Barrera. Barrera's triple was his first three-bagger since July 9, 2021, with Washington. Barrera finished his day 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBI, one run scored, and a walk.
Red Wings' designated hitter Nick Banks proved that the bank is open on Sunday in Rochester when he deposited an opposite-field home run into the Syracuse Bullpen in the bottom of the fourth inning. This was Banks' fifth multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4.
Sterling Sharp (1-0) got his first start of the season for the Red Wings, following three appearances in relief. Sterling lived up to his name looking sharp as he pitched five innings for the Wings, giving up two runs on four hits, and striking out five.
Shortstop Dee Strange-Gordon has had a quiet start to his rehab assignment in Rochester, coming into today's game 2-for-14 in a Red Wings uniform. He was able to do some damage today though, going 1-for-4 with a double, and two RBI. His RBI double in the bottom of the fourth extended the Red Wing lead to 7-2.
The Red Wings prepare for another week at home as they take on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a six-game set at Frontier Field starting on Tuesday. RHP Jefry Rodriguez will take the mound for the Wings in game one, with the first pitch set for 6:05.
