Lowell, Mass. - Bruno St. Jacques had a goal and an assist to lift the Portland Pirates (11-4-0-0) to a 4-3 win over the Lowell Lock Monsters (8-7-0-2) at Tsongas Arena on Friday night. The Lock Monsters were gunning for a share of the Atlantic Division lead with Portland tonight.

The opening period saw plenty of action and scoring opportunities. And both teams lit the lamp on the power play. Andrew Ladd notched his sixth of the season to make it 1-0 eight minutes into the contest, from off the left post. Five minutes later the Pirates tied it up on a power play of their own by Kent Huskins, whose shot glanced off the right post and in. David Gove celebrated his fifth of the season less than two minutes later and the Monsters regained the lead, touching up G Nathan Marsters twice in the opening frame. Portland tied the score a second time in the final minute of the frame to make it 2-2 after one.

While chances were plentiful in the first, it took over 11 minutes for a tally in the second. D Shane O'Brien's blast snapped the 2-2 tie at 11:14. The Monsters played a strong period, using the body and outshooting Portland 16-10. But they couldn't tie the score, and trailed 3-2 heading into the dressing room.

Lowell tied the game in the third while shorthanded. Ladd picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated down the right side, whistling a wrister past Marsters to make it 3-3 just over five minutes in. But St. Jacques, who played in parts of the last three seasons in Lowell and started training camp this season with the Monsters, notched his first of the year to regain the lead at 11:05. He became the fourth Pirate of the night to record his first goal of the season, and the 4-3 lead would hold.

After a Saturday night game in Manchester the Monsters return home to host the Monarchs on Sunday. That game features the annual Hannaford Food Drive. Anyone bringing in a Hannaford-bran non-perishable food item will receive two tickets to the Monsters home game on December 7th. All proceeds will go toward Catholic Charities of Merrimack Valley.
