HERSHEY - The Hershey Bears scored seven power play goals - six of them on five-on-three opportunities - to take a 7-2 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms at GIANT Center on Saturday night.

The Phantoms scored first with a five-on-three man advantage. Freddy Meyer, back in just his third game of the campaign due to a preseason injury, bagged his first. Posed at the high slot and 15 feet down from the blue line, Meyer bombed away and found room high on the glove side of Frederic Cassivi. Dan Cavanaugh and John Slaney tabbed the assists. Slaney's point for the assist put him just seven shy of becoming the AHL's all-time leading scoring defenseman.

With the Phantoms down a man, the Bears tied the game with just 61 seconds remaining in the period. Graham Mink redirected his 11th goal of the season past Philadelphia netminder Jamie Storr. The burly winger was floating between the faceoff circles and was able to get his stick on a Lawrence Nycholat bid.

In a penalty-happy game, the Bears scored twice with superior manpower in the second. Louis Robitaille, with his skates dancing at the top of Storr's crease, tipped in the go-ahead goal at 7:10. Less than a minute later, and still holding a five-on-three man advantage, Graham Mink found a loose puck just out of Storr's reach and shoveled it home.

In gratitude of all the power play time, the Bears outshot the Phantoms 16-3 in the second and had a 30-11 advantage at the second break. The third was more of the same as far as shots and penalties as the Bears reached the seven-power-play-goal mark, converting on four more five-on-three advantages in the third. Eric Fehr scored at 4:53, followed by Mark Wotton less than a minute later. Boyd Kane made it 6-1 and David Steckel finished the Bears' scoring at 7:31.

With just two minutes to go, Josh Gratton put bookends on the scoring with a wraparound goal, but little consolation for a team that was tabbed for 28 penalties for 90 minutes. The Bears ended up going 7-18 on the power play and outshot the Phantoms 49-18 on the night. At the end of the evening, only three Phantoms - Marc Cavosie, Pat Kavanagh and Ken Magowan - had not visited the penalty box.
