Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (27-30) were edged out by the Mississippi Braves (31-25) 2-1 in 10 innings on Monday night at Riverwalk, despite an incredible start from their ace Jaime Schultz (4-3).

Schultz threw seven shutout innings of three-hit baseball, but Montgomery's bullpen could not hold a 1-0 lead- courtesy of a Johnny Field, Jr. RBI-single in the first-entering the top half of the eighth. Reliever Parker Markel uncorked a wild pitch with two on and two out, which tied the game at one and gave the Braves a lifeline.

Mississippi starting pitcher and former Biscuits Victor Mateo (3-2) was outstanding on the other side, keeping pace with Schultz and then out dueling him by taking the 1-1 game into the final frame. Mateo finished with nine innings of work, allowing just the one run on five hits as the game shifted into extra frames.

Colton Reavis came on in the top of the 10th, and after loading the bases, came up against another former Biscuits KD Kang who delivered a heartbreaking sac fly that handed the Braves a 2-1 lead, both of their runs coming across the plate on the night on non-base hits.

The Biscuits threatened in the bottom half of the inning with Patrick Leonard's leadoff double, but ultimately squandered the opportunity, taking their 30th loss of the season. Montgomery will aim to rebound Tuesday when Blake Snell (3-1) takes on Tyrell Jenkins (4-2) at 7:05 PM.
