Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves RHP Jake Brigham was named Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week (May 25-31 & June 1-7). Brigham took a perfect game into the ninth inning on June 4 at Trustmark Park before surrendering a double down the left field line.
Brigham retired 24 straight batters, taking a perfect game into the ninth. Jackson's Dan Paolini led off with a double down the left field line to break up the perfect game. He faced one batter over the minimum, tossing a complete game one-hitter to lead the Mississippi Braves to an 8-1 victory over the Jackson Generals. The right-handed pitcher threw 96 pitches, 68 for strikes.
The M-Braves have never had a perfect game in its 10-plus year history. Only two no-hitters have been thrown in M-Braves history-Tommy Hanson (individual in 2008) and Julio Teheran/Tyrelle Harris (combined in 2010).
Brigham's first Southern League Pitcher of the Week honors came after tossing eight shutout innings against Pensacola and giving up just three hits in that contest on May 29. In that pitcher's duel, Brigham gave up just three hits and struck out five as the M-Braves defeated the Blue Wahoos 1-0 at Trustmark Park. Brigham threw 87 pitches, 62 for strikes.
Brigham has a record of 5-2 with a 3.42 ERA in 10 starts for the M-Braves this season. He was 3-0 with a 2.45 mark in five starts during the month of May. The right-hander was hit by a liner back to the mound on May 18 at Pensacola and was placed on the DL with a right shin contusion the next day. He was activated on May 27.
Brigham was signed by the Braves as a free agent on November 20, 2014.
The Mississippi Braves baseball team is the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since making the move from Greenville, SC, in 2005, over 95 M-Braves have gone on to play in the big leagues. The M-Braves have made postseason play three times and went on to win the Southern League Championship in 2008. Tickets are on sale now. Stop by Trustmark Park or call 888-BRAVES4 Monday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For the latest news and updates, visit mississippibraves.com, facebook.com/mbraves and twitter.com/mbraves.
