Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms fell to the Fargo Force Saturday night in North Dakota by a final score of 3-0. After comfortably downing the Force on Friday, Youngstown was unable to solve Fargo netminder Robbie Beydoun.
"We lacked a killer instinct tonight, it's pretty simple. Their first goal, someone has to block that, that can't end up in the net. We had chances to take the lead before that, but from then on Fargo played desperate hockey and we didn't match their intensity," said Phantoms Head Coach John Wroblewski.
Fargo opened up the scoring a little over 12 minutes into the first frame, when Shane McMahan's wrist shot found its way through traffic and past Ryan Bednard. Youngstown had some chances to tie the game, but Beydoun made big saves all night to keep the Phantoms off the board.
The Force would double its lead late in the second period. With a player from each team in the penalty box, Fargo capitalized on extra ice space when Hugo Reinhardt tallied his seventh goal of the campaign.
Fargo would extend its lead to three goals early in the final period. Phantoms defenseman Vas Kolias had his stick knocked out of his hands exiting his own zone. Normally an automatic slashing penalty, the officials allowed play to continue. Fargo picked up the puck in the Youngstown end, and Hank Crone beat Bednard for his tenth goal of the year.
"I think fatigue might have played a factor tonight. We're already playing short, then when you add the travel from Eastern Ohio to North Dakota, I think that could have played a part in our lack of killer instinct. Hopefully we can get some guys back for next weekend," Wroblewski said.
The Phantoms will be back in Youngstown this coming weekend to take on the league leading Cedar Rapids Rough Riders. Friday the 19th will be a Dollar Beer Night, and Sunday the 21st will be the Phantoms last Family Funday game of the season, featuring a post-game bounce party hosted by Austintown Bounce.
