Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

Des Moines twice tied the game but could never get the lead and the Madison Capitols skated out of Buccaneer Arena with a 4-2 victory.

Madison struck first when Dmitri Buinitsky scored at the 8:15 mark of the first period but Des Moines would counter less than three minutes later. Wyatt Bongiovanni backhanded a pass below the goal line through the slot and Alec Rauhauser collected it in between the top of the circles and fired a shot through traffic that found a lane into the net. Again Madison took a lead in the period after Eugene Fadyeyev scored at the 15:17 mark but in the final minute of the first period the Buccaneers tied it up in an unconventional manner. Ty Pelton-Byce was streaking toward the net and when his legs were taken out from under him he took the puck with him after Drew Hotte left a rebound off a David Keefer shot. Madison edged Des Moines in shots on goal for the first period 11-10.

In the second period one lone goal was scored as Luke McElhenie took the puck from the right circle and beat Jan Ruzicka high blocker side 14:05 into the second period to give the visitors the lead after two. Des Moines was able to get 16 shots on net in the period but Hotte came up with all 16 saves and Madison took their 3-2 lead into the third period.

Buinitsky added his second goal of the game and third point on the night with a goal at the 5:35 mark to bring the final score to 4-2. The Buccaneers twice pulled goaltender Jan Ruzicka, once on a MidAmerican Energy Power Play, and then again at the end of the game and while it created some chances, Des Moines was unable to get one past Hotte, who ended the game with 37 saves while Jan Ruzicka had 29 saves in the loss.

The Buccaneers are next in action on the road in Green Bay on Friday, February 19th.
