Tri-City Storm News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - Wade Allison ripped a loose puck past Stefanos Lekkas with 46 seconds remaining in overtime, catapulting the Tri-City Storm to a 2-1 victory over the Sioux Falls Stampede Friday at the PREMIER Center.
John Marino drove the crease on the right side, creating havoc in three-on-three. Dan Labosky battered the puck off bodies to Allison, who scooped and shot it for his 18th of the season.
Jake Kielly made 34 saves, carving to 9-0-1-0 in the 2016 calendar year.
The Storm is the first team to beat the Herd at home on consecutive days. The weekend sweep gives Tri-City 50 points, second in the conference and three behind the Lincoln Stars.
Kielly's night did not start cleanly, allowing a power-play goal to Jack Suter on Sioux Falls' third shot of the game. Assists went to Eric MacAdams and Lawton Courtnall. Kielly rebounded to make the last 31 saves, holding the Herd to two total goals this weekend.
After the first goal by Sioux Falls, the game settled into a defensive showdown even though penalties continued to be assessed. The Storm had five power plays, while the Stampede finished 1-for-3 on the man up.
With the game starting to look bleak with the Storm down by a goal, Monte Graham jumpstarted a rush that helped Tri-City tie at one. Starting from the high slot, Graham fed to Max Humitz at open space, who relayed it to Carson Meyer in front of cage to tie the game at one.
Meyer scored in each of the two weekend games, giving him six goals in his last six games, plus a team-best 24 tallies this campaign.
After regulation, Sioux Falls led the shots total, 33-27.
The Storm limited Sioux Falls to two overtime shots, while Tri-City had seven in the extra session. A last-minute, net-mouth scramble generated by Marino led to Allison's second overtime winner. Labosky had the primary assist.
With the six-game road trip behind Tri-City, the Storm finishes the three-game set against Sioux Falls next Friday, Feb. 19m at 7:30 p.m. on Thunderstruck Night. The game features a Free Kids Friday and a special thunderstick giveaway. The Storm is also home against Omaha Saturday at 7:05 p.m. for Pack It In Purple Night.
