Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Sioux Falls, SD - Wade Allison scored with 46 seconds remaining in overtime as the Tri-City Storm stunned the Stamped 2-1 before 6,481 at the PREMIER Center Saturday night to sweep the weekend series. The Herd (19-20-3) earned a point with the overtime loss and earned at least a point in three of four games during their four-game homestand. The point proved to a big one as it put the Herd into sole possession of fourth place in the Western Conference. Jack Suter scored the Herd's only goal early in the first period while Stefanos Lekkas was once again outstanding between the pipes stopping 33 of 35 shots on the night.

The Stampede were looking to come out with a strong performance in the first period and make a statement and they did just that. It took the Herd all of 3:37 into the game to grab a 1-0 lead when Jack Suter scored on the power play. After Lawton Courtnall was denied his shot attempt, Suter crashed the Storm net and wristed a shot that was stopped by Tri-City goaltender Jake Kielly, but Suter was persistent and continued to jam away the puck before he was able to squeak it past Kielly and a Storm defender for his 11th of the season. The Stampede looked good for the remainder of the period, but were unable to add to their lead and took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

The Stampede continued their strong play in the second period, outshooting the Storm 8-4, but the Herd couldn't find a way to beat Kielly to add to their lead. The Storm played well during the period as well, but Stefanos Lekkas was on top of his game and continued to hold off the Storm offensive attack.

Sioux Falls was hoping to add to their lead in the third period, but Kielly continued to play solid between the pipes and denied the Herd on all 10 shots in the period. The Storm finally were able to get past Stefanos Lekkas at the 11:44 mark when Max Humitz sent a pass in the crease to Carson Meyer who was able to kick the puck off his skates to his stick and slip the puck past Lekkas to tie the game at one and eventually force overtime.

The extra session brought more excitement to the crowd of 6,481 at the PREMIER Center as fans were treated to some 3-on-3 action that nearly ended with a Stampede victory, but once again Kielly answered the call. It appeared we would be headed to overtime, but the Storm broke through with just 46 seconds left in overtime after a big scramble in front of the net resulted in the puck bouncing out inside the left circle to Wade Allison who quickly slapped the puck in to the back of the net to give the Storm their 20th victory of the season.

Tri-City and the Stampede each finished the night with 35 shots on goal. Sioux Falls finished 1-for-3 on the power play while the Storm finished 0-for-4.

The Herd will face Tri-City yet again next Friday, but this time in Kearney at 7:30 PM. Fans can listen live on KELO News Talk 1320-AM, 107.9-FM starting at 7:05 PM. The Herd will return home the following night on February 20th to host the Fargo Force for Dental Solutions Night.
