February 13, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks outshot the Lincoln Stars 40-21 at Young Arena Saturday but finished on the downside of a 2-1 decision.
Peyton Jones made 39 saves during the matchup, 29 of them during the first 40 minutes. Ben Newhouse put the only puck past him, firing a one-time blast into the net from the right point on a feed by Shane Bowers at 3:07 of the third period. Newhouse's goal tied the score at 1-1.
Just 20 seconds later the Stars went back to the lead permanently. Cale Morris stopped Tye Ausmus on an odd-man rush, but Trevor Hamilton trailed the play and fired the rebound between the pipes from the right wing circle.
Through two periods, the Stars had owned the only goal. It was recorded on a two-on-one rush at 3:29, when Collin Peters set up Grant Jozefek, who steered to his backhanded near the top of the crease and slipped a shot over the goal line.
The Hawks' weekend concludes Sunday against the Sioux City Musketeers at 3:05 p.m. After the game, fans are invited to skate with the team, then join the Black Hawks at the OP on University Avenue for at postgame party beginning at 7 o'clock.
