Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
DUBUQUE, IA (February 13th) - Collin Adams scored two goals, but the Muskegon Lumberjacks fall to the Dubuque Fighting Saints 6-2. Muskegon is now (16-19-4) on the season, while Dubuque improves to (27-13-1).
The Lumberjacks jumped on the Fighting Saints in the first ten minutes of hockey, outshooting Dubuque 10-3, and broke through seven minutes into the game. Collin Adams made a beautiful move around a couple of Dubuque defenders, and buried it past Hunter Miska, to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead. It was Adams second power play goal in as many games, and his two line mates Rem Pitlick and Matej Paulovic registered the assists on the goal.
The team with the most first period goals in the United States Hockey League would counter with three goals to close out the early twenty minute frame. Zach Solow scored back-to-back goals, and Petter Mäkitalo chipped in another, to give Dubuque a 3-1 lead.
The Fighting Saints started the second period on the power play, and Evan Smith added another goal, to give Dubuque a three-goal lead. Seconds before the end of the second period, Fighting Saints defenseman Andrew Kerr received a five-minute major penalty, to put Muskegon on the power play for the fifth time of the evening.
Dubuque picked up their largest lead of the night, when Smith scored his second goal of the game early in the third period. Muskegon responded a couple minutes later, when Adams scored his second goal of the game after bashing in a rebound. Paulovic and Pitlick assisted on the goal, and all three of the first line forwards are currently on a five-game point streak. Dubuque would add another goal late in the third period, and knock off the Lumberjacks 6-2.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks (16-19-4) will look to finish the road trip with a victory, Monday, February 15th, when they take on the Bloomington Thunder (22-14-4) at 4:00 p.m. Muskegon will return home next weekend to host the Madison Captiols for a weekend series.
