SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Flying Squirrels will seek to snap a three-game slide when they take on the New Britain Rock Cats in the fi nale of a four-game series at The Diamond today. On Sunday afternoon, Evan Bigley went 3-for-5 and delivered a two-run double in a fi ve-run sixth inning to propel New Britain (39-34) to a 7-3 win over the Flying Squirrels (36-39) at The Diamond.

With the win, New Britain improved to 7-3 against Richmond in 2012. Juan Perez and Gary Brown each hit home runs and posted multi-hit games for Richmond. Craig Westcott (6-5) allowed seven hits and six runs, fi ve of which were earned, in fi ve innings pitched and was charged with the loss. Logan Darnell (6-6) earned the win after allowing seven hits and three earned runs in six innings pitched for New Britain. Daniel Turpen worked three innings of scoreless relief to earn his fi fth save of the season. The Flying Squirrels went 8-7 against New Britain in 2011 including a 4-4 mark at The Diamond. Richmond is 19-18 all-time against the Rock Cats and the club is 11-9 all-time in the River City. The two teams will meet 14 times in 2012, seven times in New Britain and seven times in Richmond. The Rock Cats claimed the opening series by winning three out of four games between the clubs at New Britain Stadium (4/5-4/7). Richmond won two out three from the Rock Cats at The Diamond (4/27-4/29).

TODAY'S PITCHERS: RHP Chris Heston vs. RHP Brett Jacobson Heston: Makes his fi fteenth start for the Flying Squirrels today. In his last start, Heston allowed six hits and four earned runs, along with no walks and 10 strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched at Trenton Wednesday. He received a no-decision in Richmond's 7-5 triumph in 12 innings. Today's game will be Heston's second career start against the Rock Cats. He is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA against New Brit- ain. Heston currently leads the Eastern League in ERA (1.36), strikeouts (80) and WHIP (0.94). Additionally, he ranks third in the league in opponents' average (.207). Last season, Heston went 12-4 and posted a 3.16 ERA, which led the California League, in 24 starts with Advanced-A San Jose. His 12 wins tied him for second in the circuit behind current Squirrels teammate Craig Westcott.

As a result, the 24-year-old right-hander was named a California League Mid-Season All-Star. Heston's success in San Jose came on the heels of a middling season with Low-A Augusta, in which he compiled a 5-13 mark with a 3.75 ERA in 26 starts in 2010.

Heston owns a 24-24 record with a 3.08 ERA in 75 career minor league appearances, including 70 starts. The Palm Bay, Fla. native was originally selected by Minnesota in the 47th round of the 2007 June Draft, but he did not sign. He also did not sign after being picked by Washington in the 29th round of the 2008 June Draft. He signed with San Francisco after the Giants selected him in the 12th round of the 2009 June Draft out of East Carolina University.

Jacobson: Makes his sixteenth appearance and his fi fth start of the season for New Britain today. In his last start, Jacobson allowed four hits and seven earned runs along with fi ve walks and two strikeouts in three innings pitched at Altoona Wednesday. He took the loss in New Britain's 9-4 setback. Today's game will be his fi fth career appearance and his fi rst start against the Flying Squir- rels. Jacobson is 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA against Richmond. He boasts a career record of 17-16 with nine saves and a 4.00 ERA in 150 appearances, including 17 starts. He was selected by the Tigers in the fourth round of the 2008 June Draft out of the Vanderbilt University. He was acquired by Minnesota in a trade with Baltimore, which sent J. J. Hardy to the Orioles on December 9, 2010.

WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?: Gary Brown continues to fare well at the plate. Brown went 2-for-5 and hit his third home run of the season in Sunday's 7-3 setback against New Britain. It was his eighth consecutive game with a base hit, with multiple hits in six of those eight contests. He has now established a new season-high hitting streak. In his last 10 games, Brown is batting .354 (17-for-48) with one home run, fi ve RBIs and nine runs scored. He currently ranks third in the Eastern League in stolen bases with 21.

THE REAL DON JUAN: After going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored in yesterday's 7-3 loss to New Britain, Juan Perez is now hitting .364 in his last ten games (16-for-44) with a home runs, four RBIs and fi ve runs scored. Perez delivered a walk-off RBI single against Portland on June 17 to lift Richmond to a 5-4 triumph in 10 innings and a series victory in the three- game set.

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD: Mark Minicozzi has been a welcome addition to the Flying Squirrels lineup. Since joining the club on June 1, Minicozzi is batting .302 with three home runs and 12 RBIs. After going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Sunday's game against New Britain, Minicozzi is now hitting .344 (11-for-32) with two home runs, six RBis and fi ve runs scored in his last ten games. Orginally drafted by San Francisco in 2005, the former East Carolina University standout played in the Giants system from 2005-07 and he spent the past three seasons playing in several independent leagues.
