Akron RubberDucks News Release
Altoona, PA - Altoona's Kelson Brown hit a pair of home runs, including a solo shot during a four-run sixth inning, as the Curve pummeled the Aeros 13-8, in the series finale at People's Natural Gas Field.
Brown's home run off Kyle Landis (4-3) in the sixth inning snapped a tie game at 8-8, and opened the flood-gates as the Curve score three more to forge ahead, 12-8. Brown would homer again in the seventh off Bryce Stowell, to make it 13-8. The round-trippers were Brown's first two of the season.
The Aeros (47-29) ended the series and road trip with a 2-2 split. In their two wins in the series, the Curve (35-39) battered the Aeros top-ranked pitching staff for 26 runs on 29 hits.
The Aeros came back from an early deficit on a home run by Adam Abraham in the second inning, and a four-run third inning rally, highlighted by a two-run single by Chen Chen.
The Curve rallied to take an 8-5 lead, but Thomas Neal swatted a three-run home run off Mike Colla (3-4) in the sixth to tie the game at 8-8. It was Neal's fourth homer of the year, and part of a three-hit night.
Abraham's second-inning home run extended his hitting streak to seven games. Jeremie Tice went 1-5, and has hit in all four games since being called up to Akron from Class-A Carolina. Jordan Henry chipped in three-hits for the Aeros.
Lefty T.J. House started and lasted only three innings, giving up five earned runs. After that, four Aeros relievers combined to surrender eight more runs.
Second place Harrisburg won over New Hampshire, 9-8, cutting the Aeros lead in the EL West to 8 =C21/2 games.
The Aeros now return to Canal Park Tuesday night for the start of a lengthy, eight-game homestand, featuring four games apiece against Erie and Richmond. In the opener on Tuesday, LHP Ramon Garcia will start for Erie against LHP Giovanni Soto (5-3, 3.96) for Akron. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com.
