Eight-Run 2nd Leads Sens to 9-8 Win
June 25, 2012 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators scored eight runs in the second inning on Monday night in New Hampshire and hung on for a 9-8 over the Fisher Cats. With the win, the Senators finish the road trip through New England 3-4 but split the four games with New Hampshire. The Senators return home for their longest homestand of the year 38-37 and still in second place in the Western Division.
In their big second inning, the Sens sent twelve batters to the plate with the big blows a two-run home run by Zach Walters, a three-run home run by Tim Pahuta, and a two-run single by Jesus Valdez. They banged out seven hits in the frame. It was their biggest inning since scoring eight runs in the eighth inning at Bowie on April 7th.
Staked to the 8-0 lead, Kevin Pucetas allowed two runs in the second, one unearned, three more in the fourth and three more in the sixth with one unearned before turning the game over to the bullpen. He allowed six earned runs on eight hits but still earned the win to move to 6-2 on the season.
Pat McCoy pitched 0.1 innings, followed by Erik Davis who pitched two scoreless innings and finally Hector Nelo who retired the Fisher Cats in order in the ninth for his seventh save on the season.
Justin Bloxom provided the difference in the game hitting a solo home run, his first as a member of the Harrisburg Senators, leading off the fifth inning for Harrisburg's ninth run.
Jimmy Van Ostrand, Devin Ivany, Bloxom and Valdez all had two hits in the game.
New Hampshire threatened to tie the game in the seventh inning off Erik Davis, putting runners on first and third with no outs. Davis kept them off the scoreboard with two fielder's choice ground outs and a strike out to end the threat.
The Senators return home Tuesday night to open a four-game series with the Altoona Curve. Game time on Tuesday is 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard beginning at 6:40 p.m. on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website and on all mobile devices through the iHeart Radio app.
