Charlotte Checkers News Release
(Charlotte, North Carolina â Friday, January 30 ) For the second straight game the Checkers players put up a spirited effort and while Charlotte didn't win Friday night, they did earn a point and the fans approval in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Florence Pride at Cricket Arena. Kyle Kidney scored a pair of goals for Florence including the game-winner with just 26 seconds left in sudden-death overtime. The Checkers pulled off some heroics of their own as Allan Egeland scored a power-play goal with aid of a sixth attacker with 10 seconds left in the third period to send the game to overtime. Nick Bilotto scored the other Checkers goal while Adam Elzinga, Eric Naud and Tim Reid netted tallies for Florence.
"We played hard again tonight and made some mistakes but with our short lineup, I was very happy with things, " commented Checkers Coach Derek Wilkinson "Florence has added some solid players lately and have been playing much better. Mike Wirll is a guy with some fantastic tools and it's good to see him coming on offensively, as well as Richard Keyes with his three assists"
