Fresno Falcons News Release
LAS VEGAS â The Fresno Falcons suffered their worst defeat of the season on Saturday at Orleans Arena when they gave-up eight unanswered goals in a 9-1 loss to the Las Vegas Wranglers.
For the third straight game the Falcons gave-up a goal on the opposition's first shot of the game. The Wranglers' Dave Cousineau skated onto an errant pass from Jason McBain before beating goaltender Terry Friesen at 4:36. Fresno responded, though, in similar fashion. Mike Sandbeck's pass for Kevin Truelson was broken up but landed right on the stick of Drew Schoneck, who wristed in his third of the season at 6:15. Las Vegas then struck for two straight to end the period with a 3-1 lead. Eric Schneider scored at 9:01 just after Fresno killed off a Wranglers power play before Chris Kenady gave his team a two-goal lead at 14:40 with the teams four-on-four.
Fresno generated the better chances in the second period but were held at bay by Las Vegas goaltender Brent Krahn, who stopped all 12 shots he faced. While Krahn was holding the fort, his teammates added to their lead. Darren Partch scored twice, at 5:04 and then on the power play at 17:54, to give the Wranglers a 5-1 lead heading to the final period.
Las Vegas poured it on during the third, scoring four times, including twice on back-to-back power plays. They out-shot Fresno 22-10 over the final 20 minutes and tied a league season-high with the nine-goal performance. Partch ended up completing the hat trick, and he was joined by Schneider, Ryan Christie and Cam Bristow as players that scored in the third.
The Falcons next take the ice when they battle the Condors at Bakersfield's Centennial Garden on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The game can be heard live on KAAT 103.1 FM beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the pre-game show.
The team's next game at Save Mart Center is Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. when they host the Northern Division's Trenton Titans. Tickets for Wednesday's game are still available for as little as $8 and can be purchased at the Save Mart Center box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, which include select Save Mart Supermarkets, Tower Records, Wherehouse Music and Ritmo Latino locations, charged by phone at 485-TIXS or bought online by clicking the Ticketmaster icon throughout www.fresnofalcons.com.
