San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Gulls have had two days off in the last nine days. They're battered... they're bruised... they're exhausted. Yet they keep finding ways to win, which was evident again Saturday night in a 4-2 triumph over the Bakersfield Condors.

Samy Nasreddine led the way with two power-play goals while Greg Barber chipped in with a goal and two helpers. Mark Pederson added the game-winning marker and an assist, extending his league-leading point streak to 18 games.

The Gulls (30-10-3) have now won an a ECHL-high nine straight games – 11 in a row at home – and take over the top spot in the Western Conference, one point ahead of the Louisiana IceGators. They're still three points behind the Wheeling Nailers for the best record in the league.

Killing penalties has been a major bug-a-boo for the Condors this season and they got burned again late in the first period... twice. Nasreddine was the beneficiary both times, taking advantage of two consecutive Bakersfield infractions. Dennis Ladouceur was already serving a hooking penalty when Jason Ralph got whistled for slashing.

On the ensuing two-man advantage Nasreddine beat a screened Joe Watkins from the left point to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead, 17:48 into the first. Nasreddine cashed in again 53 seconds later, creeping in from the blue line and redirecting home Billy Tibbetts' cross-ice feed. Barber assisted on both goals, extending his point streak to a career-high 11 games.

Bakersfield (14-22-6) got on the board 5:08 into the second period as Andrew Ianiero found the back of the net for the 10th time this season. Todd Alexander got the original shot from the slot that Trevor Koenig stopped, but Ianiero was right there to put in the rebound.

Pederson regained San Diego's two-goal cushion 2:34 later with his league-leading 30th tally. Tibbetts had the puck in the left wing circle and dished it to a wide-open Pederson, who easily tapped it by an out-of-position Watkins.

The Condors answered again at 11:37 of the second, making it a 3-2 game. Mike Barrie stole the puck just outside the Gulls blue line, skated into the right wing circle and snapped it over Koenig's shoulder.

Barber sealed the "W" with his 17th goal 8:06 into the third period, connecting on assists from Sylvain Deschatelets and Pederson. The San Diego rookie hopped on a rebound in front of Watkins and slapped it past the Bakersfield netminder, giving the Gulls its third two-goal lead of the game.

Nasreddine has four goals in his last four games... The Gulls are unbeaten in 22 of their last 25 games (21-3-1), outscoring their opponents 87-51... San Diego is 28-7-3 against Pacific Division teams, including an 18-1-0 mark at home... Trent Clark was reacquired from the Long Beach Ice Dogs Saturday...
