Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (January 30, 2004) â After getting shutout on the power play the night before, the Trenton Titans were a perfect 3-for-3 with the man advantage in the first period en route to a 4-1 win over the Dayton Bombers. Mathieu Brunelle had the first four-point game of his professional career having a hand in all four Titans goals, scoring an insurance goal late and adding three assists.
Titan defenseman Ryan Crane got it started early at 2:47 of the first period when his point shot was deflected by a Bombers players past Bujar Amidovkski for a power play goal and 1-0 lead. With Janne Jokila in the box for cross checking, Chris Pittman struck again with the man advantage, roofing a wrist shot over Amidovski's shoulder. Both goals were scored just 1:00 apart. Matt Zultek capped off the power play barrage with a one-timer goal off of Jay Leach's feed from the near corner, making the score 3-0 Titans heading into the first intermission.
Amidovski took a seat after the first period as back-up goaltender Andrew Penner took the net for the rest of the game. Penner would stem the bleeding for the Bombers as Dayton notched a special teams tally of their own at 8:18 of the middle frame. While on the penalty kill, Chad Theuer found Fraser Clair all alone in front of Andrew Allen. Clair took the pass and stickhandled the puck around Allen and into net to cut the Titans lead to two goals. It was the tenth shorthanded given up by Trenton this season.
The score remained 3-1 until Mathieu Brunelle sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the closing seconds to make the final score 4-1 Titans. Allen made 34 of 35 for the win, raising his record above .500 for the first time this season at 12-11-3. The Titans were 3-for-6 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Titans finish their homestand on Saturday, January 31st for "Kids Run the Show Night" presented by The Trentonian, as the Augusta Lynx come to town for a 7:00pm face-off. To purchase tickets, call your Titans Ticket Representative at 609.599.9500.
